Information for Thursday 9th January 2025 (as at 5:40pm - 08.01.24)

With no sign of weather conditions improving tomorrow we anticipate that the plan for Thursday will remain the same as Wednesday which was as follows:

We will open at the usual time - 8:45am (REACH 7:30am) however we will keep register open until 9:45am (no late marks).  We will have an extended assembly together in the hall first thing and lessons will begin at 9:45am.  This will allow pupils and staff to travel to school where additional time is necessary for safe travel.  It also means that those who need additional time will not miss lessons.   Please do not feel you have to rush to be here for when the doors open - use the additional time allocated to arrive safely as this also helps to reduce congestion whilst the paths and side roads have limited access as well as allowing staff who need it the extra time to travel safely.

All being well, after the extended registration, we will be able to deliver our normal curriculum.

The paths at the front of school and around the building have been cleared and will be re-gritted in the morning, please take care as there may still be icy patches.  Please take extra care if using untreated footpaths around school or on public roads.  Unfortunately our car park is not available for use for parents tomorrow (no drop off zone).

You should assess the safety of your own journey to school.  If you feel it is unsafe for you to make the journey to bring your child to school, please let us know by selecting 1 on the school answerphone system or emailing the school office.  Please clearly state your child/children's name(s), year group(s) and the reason for the absence.  Absences due weather conditions do not affect attendance figures.

Thank you for your support and understanding - stay safe.

Welcome

We, the staff, governors and children, welcome you to the Rowley Lane J I & N School website. On this website you will find important information about the school as well as an insight into some of the learning activities we engage in.

If you are considering sending your child to Rowley Lane, we hold open evening sessions in the Autumn Term for pupils due to start the following September in Reception.  We also hold similar sessions in the Spring Term for those considering a place at Nursery. If you move into the area and need to consider a place here in an existing year group or at a different time of year, please contact the office for information.

At Rowley Lane, our school aim is for every child to achieve their full potential through our motto Believe Achieve Succeed.  We nurture self belief, celebrate all achievements however big or small with the aim of all of our pupils succeeding in life - to be the best they can be.  We aim to provide an environment where all children can achieve this through enjoyable, high quality teaching and learning.  We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum with fun, varied and exciting learning experiences.  Staff and children have high expectations of achievement in all subject areas.

Great value is placed on a positive ethos in and around school, respecting each other and our environment.  We treat each other as we wish to be treated ourselves  and always wear a 'Rowley Lane Smile'.  Our school values are: To be respectful & responsible, open & honest.  To work hard, work together, look after each other & our environment, be enthusiastic about learning and to have a You Can Do It attitude.

We have just under 430 children on roll at school from Nursery up to Year 6.  From Reception to Year Six, there are two classes per year group with up to 33 children in each class (In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 class sizes are limited to 30).  As well as a teacher in each class, each year group also has Educational Teaching Assistants to support learning.  You can find out more about our staff in the Key Information Section.

We have a 30 place Nursery that offers full or half day sessions.  Where the chosen sessions go slightly above the funded hours, a top up payment is required each half term. There is also a Pre-School onsite who can provide wrap around care for our Nursery & Reception children.  You can find more information about Pre-School in the Community section on the top bar.

We pride ourselves on our lovely environment in school.  As well as the  open classrooms and wide corridor spaces inside, we also have: a Computer Suite; a Library, a Large Hall; a Modular Hall; a Performing Arts Room; 1 Small Group Teaching Rooms; Garden Room (for Phonics), a small Nurture Nest and a Zen Den for social and emotional Support work.

School Meals are available onsite from our kitchen which is also used as a training kitchen for Kirklees Catering Service.  More information is available about these in the Parents section.

Our outdoor space is beautiful.  We have a separate purpose built play area for EYFS.  Children in full time school have access to a large play area which includes, a marked playground, a 'Quiet Zone' play area with seating, staging and built in play equipment  We are fortunate enough to have a bouldering wall, a new trim trail and a full sized floodlit Multi-Purpose All Weather Court.   In addition to this we have a large grassed area that is available when the weather is good, and two full sized football fields a short distance from the main playground.

We run extended hours childcare provision offering childcare before and after school for children from Year 1/2 upwards and also in the holidays for all school aged children.  This is called REACH (Really Exciting And Creative Hangout). Pre-School offer before and after school care for children from Nursery to Year 1/2.  More information about Pre-School and other local childcare providers can be found on the top bar.
